Cream blush has a solid or balmy texture that can be tapped into place, while liquid blush has a more fluid texture that spreads in very thin layers. Both can create natural-looking colour; the best choice depends on the texture and application style you prefer.

Mousse has an airy cream texture, tint uses a fluid colour format, a palette gives controlled access to more than one pan, and a multi-stick can be applied directly before blending. Products labelled lip and cheek are designed for both areas; always follow the individual product directions.

Allow foundation and concealer to settle, then place a small amount of blush on one cheek and tap outward. Avoid rubbing back and forth because that can disturb the base. Repeat on the other cheek and add a second thin layer only if more colour is needed.

Clean fingers are convenient for warming and tapping cream textures. A dense or stippling brush can spread colour efficiently, while a sponge can soften the edges. Use a light pressing motion with any tool and clean reusable tools regularly.

Place colour on the apples of the cheeks for a rounded flush, slightly higher and outward for a lifted-looking placement, or softly across the upper cheeks for a diffused effect. Begin with a small area and blend the edges before extending the colour.

Use thin layers, tap rather than drag, and blend each layer before adding more. Work on one cheek at a time with faster-setting textures. If an area looks uneven, soften its edge with the tool used for foundation instead of adding a heavy new layer.

Apply cream, liquid, mousse or tint cheek colour after foundation and concealer but before a heavy layer of setting powder. Press powder only where needed, then complete the rest of the makeup. Setting spray is normally applied near the end of the routine.

Keep skincare and complexion layers light, let each layer settle and build blush gradually. Set only areas that become shiny, then use setting spray if desired. During the day, blot perspiration or oil before touching up so fresh colour blends more evenly.
